Description

Personal Work
Full - Detailed Shading

I've found some me time and made this =D It's kind of a speed paint with a bit more detail than usual and not really "speedy" to make. I could sharpen the rocks more, but I really should study mountain rocks some first.

Inspired by "Fox Woman" by Kathy Mar.

"Killers come seeking for the child
Turned away by visions strong and wild
As they flee down the mountain stair
Vengeance, on fox footsteps, leaves her lair"

I think the composition is more or less in place, though in the upper right hand corner the eye does tend to wander off the page. I like the use of color in the background as well as the circular clouds in the sky, complimented by that pointy rock overy by the right.

I like the creature's hind quarters--the way you handled the shading/fur there, but everywhere else on the creature it just looks flat. The muzzle/face area looks rather 2D as well, with the eye kinda stuck on and the ear pushed up to the top of the head. With the exception of the head, the body is handled very nicely.

The rocks and general background look doo blurry to be in the same field as the wolf/fox, and they look really flat to me.

The lightsource looks slightly off as well, since the orange glow would be casting up and onto the wolf's chin and underside, and more shadows would build up on the top side. Same with the rocks--light one one side, dark on the side that light is not cast.

Finally, I'm not sure what your message is with this. I think you could bring this across stronger by defining what the creature is looking at, and what the orange glow is, for the sake of visual clarity.
